Everything your data deserves.

Built on the same technologies that power hyperscalers — without the hyperscale price tag or the proprietary lock-in.

Atomic ZFS Snapshots

Every snapshot is a guaranteed-consistent point in time. ZFS copy-on-write means snapshots are instant — no I/O quiesce, no performance penalty, no data at risk during creation.

Copy-on-Write

Incremental-Forever Backups

Only changed blocks ever transfer. A 1 TB dataset with 1 GB of daily changes costs you 1 GB of bandwidth per day — not 1 TB.

ZFS Send/Receive

Transparent Compression

LZ4 compression runs at the block level before hitting disk. Typical workloads see 1.5–3× ratios. You're billed on compressed size.

LZ4 / ZSTD

Private Tailscale Network

Your storage node joins your own Tailscale mesh. Zero public ports, zero internet exposure. Every byte travels over WireGuard's modern cryptography.

Tailscale

SSH, SFTP & rsync Access

Mount with sshfs, sync with rsync, or stream with ZFS send/receive. No proprietary client to install. Standard tools you already know and trust.

No Lock-in

Configurable Retention

Daily and weekly snapshot schedules with per-plan retention counts. Browse any historical snapshot in the portal and restore with a single click.

Point-in-Time Restore

Up and running in minutes.

No infrastructure to provision, no agents to babysit. Your backup storage is ready before your next coffee.

Claim your spot

Leave your email on the waitlist. When a spot opens we'll send you an invite and you pick the storage size and retention that fit.

2

Connect via Tailscale

Install the Tailscale client on your devices. Your dedicated storage node appears on your private network automatically — no firewall rules, no port forwarding.

$ tailscale up

Back up your way

Use rsync, SFTP, or ZFS send/receive. Automatic daily snapshots run on schedule whether you're connected or not. Restore any point in time from the portal in one click.

$ rsync -avz /data/ storage:/backup/
Or: zfs send | ssh ... zfs receive

CapyArk is running for a small group of early users while we harden the last few things. Pricing lands when we open the doors — join the list and you'll hear it first.

  • A real ZFS dataset of your own, not a bucket with a ZFS-shaped label
  • SSH, SFTP, rsync and zfs send — the tools you already use
  • Your own private Tailscale network, no public endpoint to scan
  • Snapshot retention you can actually restore from, point in time

Just need cheap raw space? Use Backblaze B2 or Hetzner Storage Box — CapyArk is for people who want backups that are managed, isolated, and restorable. You get snapshots + retention + private VPN + SSH/rsync/zfs access + a web portal, not just disk space.

A foundation you can audit.

Every component of our stack is open source and battle-tested. No black boxes. No proprietary binaries on your machines.

OpenZFS

Copy-on-write, per-block checksums, built-in compression, and RAID-Z. Silent data corruption doesn't happen — it gets detected and repaired.

Tailscale

Mesh VPN built on WireGuard's state-of-the-art cryptography — your storage appears as a local device on any of your machines, with zero exposed ports.

OpenSSH + rsync

The tools you already know. SSH for secure shell access, SFTP for file browsing, rsync for efficient transfers. No custom agents, no vendor lock-in.

Debian Linux

Rock-solid host OS with a well-understood security model and 5-year LTS support cycles. No exotic kernel modules, no custom patching — reproducible and auditable.

Prometheus + Grafana

Full observability stack monitoring every storage node, transfer job, and snapshot operation. We watch so you don't have to — alerts fire before problems become incidents.

PostgreSQL

All account metadata, snapshot records, and billing state live in PostgreSQL. ACID guarantees mean your snapshot history and billing records are always consistent.

Questions? We have answers.

The technical details, the trade-offs, the open questions — answered honestly.

Your data lives on a dedicated ZFS dataset — a private, isolated slice of a ZFS pool with its own quota, compression, and snapshot schedule. ZFS copy-on-write means writes never overwrite existing blocks; every modification is atomic. Per-block checksums (SHA-256 or Fletcher4) detect and repair silent data corruption including bit rot and faulty storage controllers.
All transfers happen over an encrypted Tailscale VPN tunnel using WireGuard (Noise Protocol, Curve25519, ChaCha20-Poly1305, BLAKE2s). Your storage server has no public IP — it only listens on its Tailscale address, reachable only from your devices. Transfers use standard protocols: SSH, SFTP, rsync, or zfs send/receive.
Storage servers are located in Central Texas, USA. Starter: single storage server on a mirrored/RAIDZ pool — protects against disk failure, not server failure. Pro and Business: a second-server replicated copy is made daily, Business on a geographically separate server when available. Check the ToS for exact durability terms. We're honest: if you need multi-region redundancy guaranteed, you'll want Pro or Business.
ZFS tracks exactly which blocks changed since any prior snapshot. zfs send -i snap1 snap2 streams only the delta — not the full dataset. A 1 TB dataset with 1 GB of daily changes transfers ~1 GB/day. rsync works similarly for file-level incrementals without ZFS at the source.
You'll receive email notifications at configurable thresholds before hitting your plan's included storage. If you go over, usage above your included allocation is billed at the per-GB overage rate — your backups keep running without interruption. Set a voluntary self-cap in the portal and overage charges become impossible.
We're onboarding in small batches while the last pieces get hardened, so we're not putting a date on it. Pricing is a flat monthly fee with storage included and a low per-GB rate above it — the exact numbers go public when we open signups. Join the waitlist and you'll get one email when that happens.
Cancel any time from the billing section of your portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period — you retain full access until then. After the period ends, your dataset and all snapshots are permanently deleted within 30 days. Download anything you need before cancelling — we'll email you reminders.
Yes. Data in transit is always encrypted over Tailscale (WireGuard's ChaCha20-Poly1305). At rest, accounts are encrypted using OpenZFS native dataset encryption (AES-256-GCM) — data is encrypted at the block level before writing to disk, and storage administrators cannot read your data without your key.

Stop hoping your backups work.
